Waffle House recently submitted a rezoning request to build its first location in the fastest-growing community on the west side of Lake Norman.

On Dec. 18, the Georgia-based 24-hour restaurant chain submitted a rezoning request to build a location at the northwest corner of N.C. 73 and Brentwood Road in Denver, according to documents from the Lincoln County Planning and Inspections Department.

The 1-acre property is currently zoned for residential use, according to county records.

The restaurant also submitted a request for a special-use permit to build a restaurant within 100 feet of a residential area, county records show. The permit is required under the Lincoln County Unified Development Ordinance.

If the request is approved, Waffle House would become the first open-round-the-clock restaurant in Denver.

The request comes two years after the Waffle House on West Catawba Avenue in Cornelius closed in 2021, Cornelius Today reported. There are two other Waffle House locations in the Lake Norman area, in Huntersville and Mooresville.

The public hearing for the request is scheduled for Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Administration Building, 353 N. Generals Blvd.
