Lincoln County commissioners on Monday unanimously denied a rezoning request that would have allowed a gas station at a busy Denver intersection.

The proposal called for a QuikTrip to be built on the north side of Unity Church Road and the east side of N.C. 16 Business, according to county documents.

The Lincoln County Planning Board voted 5-1 to deny the request, citing traffic concerns as the reason why a gas station would not be suitable for the property, county documents show.

Residents who live near the proposed site also pointed out that the gas station would make traffic worse at the intersection, the Lake Norman Citizen reported.

The denial comes months before a public swim beach is slated to open at Beatty Ford Park, located at the end of Unity Church Road, in May, The Charlotte Observer reported.

When construction concludes, Beatty’s Ford Park will become the third public access area for swimming on Lake Norman, after Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius and Lake Norman State Park in Troutman.
