Cornelius police officer struck and killed in bike accident, police say
A Cornelius police office died on Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bike, the Cornelius Police Department announced.
Officer Gabriel Stainbeck was killed during the afternoon while he and his wife rode bike together in Concord, the department said in a social media post Saturday.
“Our deepest condolences are with his family and our entire CPD family. Please keep them in your thoughts during this unimaginable tragedy,” according to a department statement on Facebook.
A gofundme account has been set up to help with funeral costs.
Stainbeck recently joined the Corneilus department and was sworn in last December after working as a cadet and going through the Basic Law Enforcement Training program. He was newly married.
