Country singer Neal McCoy scrambles to escape as tour bus goes up in flames
Country singer Neal McCoy and his team made a narrow escape after his tour bus caught fire over the weekend.
“Our bus is burning to the ground,” McCoy said in a Facebook live stream just before 6:30 Saturday morning.
McCoy said they were near Mansfield, Louisiana, on their way to a show in Alexandria when the bus, named “Old Glory” caught fire.
Facebook video of the fire shows flames shooting into the air before an explosion is heard in the background.
Everyone made it out of the bus safely, McCoy said in the video.
“Physically we are good,” he said. “That is the bus that has taken us a million miles and it is ugly. “
In a second video, McCoy said he’d been touring in Old Glory — which he calls his lifeline — for at least 12 years.
McCoy posted an update just after 8 a.m. during which he gathered first responders to say the Pledge of Allegiance “one last time with Old Glory.” McCoy and his team have said the pledge almost 1,500 days in a row, The Boot reported.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, according to A Taste of Country.
Fans were quick to offer help, but McCoy’s daughter, Miki Dougherty, posted on Facebook that donations weren’t necessary.
“Y’all. Neal McCoy fans are the best!” she wrote. “We are so appreciative of everyone’s thoughts and prayers and well wishes. Please know that these material things are replaceable and more than likely, mostly covered under insurance. We do not need any Gofundme pages set up to help. We completely see the good place these efforts are coming from, but they just aren’t necessary.”
