Photos show damage after partial ceiling collapse at world’s busiest airport in Atlanta
Part of a ceiling collapsed at the world’s busiest airport in Atlanta, and the aftermath was caught on camera.
Photos show the ceiling fell onto a restaurant’s bar area, landing near tables and chairs at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Thursday, according to posts from a reporter at WSB-TV and another Twitter user.
Crews in Concourse A examined the damage left behind at Cat Cora’s Kitchen, according to video shared with WGCL.
Courtney Timm heard part of the ceiling come down when she was at the restaurant just after 7:30 a.m., WAGA reports.
“As I approached the chair to sit down, we were blasted with gut-wrenching screaming, crashing and shattering from above,” Timm told the station.
The airport says officials responded to a partial ceiling collapse, and at least one restaurant customer asked for “emergency assistance.”
“The restaurant is closed, repairs are ongoing, and there is no impact to ATL operations,” Hartsfield-Jackson officials wrote on Twitter. “An investigation into the cause of the partial ceiling collapse is underway.”
The airport is the world’s busiest, serving about 275,000 passengers daily, according to its website.
