Ocasio-Cortez to judge ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ following in Pelosi’s footsteps
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is taking a page out of the House Speaker’s playbook and appearing on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” this year.
A promo trailer for the VH1 show reveals that the Democrat — who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens in New York City — will be a guest judge on season 12 of the show that features a cast of drag queens competing to be “America’s Next Drag Superstar.”
Ocasio-Cortez tells one of the queens in the clip that “I’m so thankful you are part of our country. I think you are fabulous.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who represents San Francisco, appeared on the show in an earlier season.
Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t been bashful about her love for the campy reality show.
She attended the Washington, D.C., show of drag queen Sasha Velour, who won her season of “Drag Race,” and has said that judging the show is her “dream,” according to Paper.
“I pledge allegiance to the drag,” Ocasio-Cortez says in a promo clip posted to Twitter.
Jeff Goldblum, Normani, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Munn, Robyn, Whoopi Goldberg and other celebrities will also be judging this season.
The show premieres Friday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m., 7 p.m. Central.
