Mega-sized grocer Costco selling baseball signed by legendary Babe Ruth at mega price

Costco is known for going big on the products it sells, so we can’t be too surprised it’s offering a baseball for $29,999.99.

Costco is known for going big on the products it sells, but a single baseball for $29,999.99?

That price only makes sense if the ball is unique and in this case, it’s signed by legendary baseball player Babe Ruth, according to the retailer.

Among the quirks with the deal -- other than oddly tacking on the .99 cents -- is that the ball is not eligible for return or refund, Costco says on its website. But shipping and handling is included in the price.

A photo of the ball shows it has a legible signature by Ruth, who was among the first players voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and “is still widely considered the greatest player in Major League Baseball history,” according to Baberuth.com.

MLB fans won’t want to miss this. https://bit.ly/2ytoPzK

Items associated with his career often fetch big prices at auction. A jersey worn by Ruth while he played for the New York Yankees (circa 1928-30) sold for $5.64 million at auction last year, according to Hunt Auctions.

Costco lists the baseball as being “officially licensed by Major League Baseball,” and it comes with a certificate of authenticity, meaning the signature has been judged real by experts. The offer ends May 31.

While Costco is not known for selling sports memorabilia, it has a page devoted to such products on its website.

Among the items currently up for sale:

  • A New Orleans Saints football helmet autographed by quarterback Drew Brees ($699.99)
  • A “New York Yankees World Series MVP’s autographed baseball” ($2,099.99)
  • A “New York Yankees Multi-Signed” Yogi Berra tribute photo ($3,999.99)
