Pooping dog spurs shooting that left woman dead, boyfriend injured, Colorado cops say

A woman is dead and her boyfriend is injured after a man shot the couple following a confrontation about their pooping dog Wednesday afternoon, Colorado police say.

A man and his girlfriend were walking their dog in Denver when the man told the dog to poop, police said, according to KMGH.

That’s when police say the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Michael Close, yelled at the couple through the window of a ground floor apartment “asking if the victim was going to train the dog or just yell at it,” the outlet reported.

The dog owner tried to ignore the suspect in the apartment before he saw Close pointing a gun — which he believed to be a pellet gun — at the couple, police said, according to KUSA.

The man heard several gun shots and tried to run away, but was hit in his leg and buttocks, KMGH reported.

His girlfriend was killed, according to KDVR. The man was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive, the outlet reported.

Police say they pulled over Close later in the day and found an AR-15 and a handgun on the floorboard of his SUV along with ammunition magazines and a gun belt, according to KUSA.

He’s being held on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated assault, KDVR reported.

The victims’ names have not been released.
