There will always be houses on the real estate market that sometimes fall under the “ick” factor, which is an expression disgust at something unpleasant or distasteful when it comes to home decor. Like, the shag carpet doesn’t suit or the fireplace seems askew - ick.

And then there’s this house, which just sold for $955,000 in Ontario, Canada, which manages to fall under the lesser known “downright disgusting, make you want to vomit in your own mouth” factor. A house so overburdened by ick that the actual listing on Zoocasa.com deemed it “unsafe to show” and that potential buyers could only view the property from the outside.

Yet, it sold after only four days on the market.

According to Zoocasa, the three-bedroom, two-bath home was listed on Oct. 21 for $899,000 and sold on Oct. 24 for $56,000 over the asking price.

Judging by the photos, it almost seems like the home is a prop on the set of some post-apocalyptic hoarder movie. Trash covers nearly every surface, almost brushing against the ceiling in some pictures. Old newspapers, disregarded fast food cups, soiled cardboard boxes and egg nog cartons mingle and mate in the pictures, triggering an unwanted gag reflex.

God knows what lies beneath the rubbish.

So how on earth did it sell so fast and for more than originally asked?

“Hyper-competitive red-hot real estate market aside, this home actually has some attractive features: An attached garage, three parking spaces, a full basement, that lovely brick exterior... but most importantly, it’s got a great location,” the website BlogTO observed. “Located in a residential subdivision near Highway 403 and Mavis Road, the house is surrounded on all sides by parks, schools, malls, restaurants and various commercial plazas.”
