‘Unprepared’ hikers with 10-month-old baby saved from snowy Utah terrain, rescuers say
A group of four people set out to hike with a 10-month old baby — and got stranded in “difficult and snowy terrain,” Utah rescuers said.
The hikers got off the trail and found themselves in snowy weather near Big Baldy, a nearly 7-mile popular out-and-back trail near Pleasant Grove about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
The group called 911 shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, after getting stranded, according to Utah County Sheriff Search and Rescue.
“Unprepared for the conditions and aware sunset was encroaching, the hikers made the right decision to call for help,” rescuers said on Facebook.
After three hours, the hikers and baby were rescued. They were flown to safety, according to the search and rescue team.
“SAR team members found the group tired, cold and struggling with the elements,” rescuers said. “Life Flight assisted with the extraction of the hikers and the infant. As always, we are grateful for their collaboration and rescue efforts.”
