Former U.S. soccer star Hope Solo was arrested on March 31 in North Carolina and is accused of driving while intoxicated with her children in the vehicle, multiple media outlets reported.

WGHP and US Weekly confirmed the incident, saying that the retired goalkeeper, a two-time gold medalist, was taken into custody in Winston-Salem and charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and misdemeanor child abuse.

The Winston-Salem Police Department confirmed the charges with McClatchy News on April 1.

Solo’s 2-year-old twins were with her at the time of her arrest, according to US Weekly.

Winston-Salem Police Department records show Solo was booked under her married name of Stevens.

The 40-year-old athlete’s attorney, Rich Nichols, posted a statement on Twitter:

“On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges.”

Solo was arrested in her home state of Washington in 2014 on two counts of fourth-degree assault for allegedly assaulting two family members, though the case was dismissed, USA Today reported.

Solo is married to former Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens. She played college soccer at the University of Washington.
