Violent storm slams eight trees into one home, Utah family says. ‘In shock’
As a powerful storm struck, Afton Adamson’s 2-year-old son screamed as he saw a 100-year-old tree falling toward their home in Springville, Utah.
She grabbed her son and ran back to her bedroom, hoping the tree wouldn’t “crush the whole house,” Adamson told KSL. She spent an anxious night as the storm raged Monday, Aug. 1.
“Just being on pins and needles, waiting to wake up this morning and see what the damage was,” Adamson told the station.
The next morning, she discovered eight trees had fallen onto the house in all, KUTV reported. Trees smashed through the roof, destroyed the garage and crushed a Jeep.
“I mean pretty much every tree hit something vital,” Adamson told the station. The family moved to the home two years ago after a wildfire destroyed their previous house.
“We’re still kind of in shock that we have to do this again,” she told KUTV.
The strong overnight thunderstorm sent backyard trampolines flying and toppled trees around Springville, KSTU reported.
A tree fell onto a power line, setting off several explosions, outside the home of Kim Griggs, according to the station. A flying trampoline damaged two of the family’s trucks.
A post Tuesday on the city’s Facebook page reports power outages after the storm. City crews are cleaning up fallen trees in streets and cemeteries.
Springville is a city of 33,000 south of Provo and Salt Lake City.
