Hiking group got separated in Colorado park. Now a body has been found, cops say

A hiking group got lost and separated from each other in a Colorado park, deputies said.

The group couldn’t find one hiker Saturday, Sept. 17, and called for help, the Larimer CountySheriff’s Office said. The man was reported missing in Horsetooth Mountain Park, a 2,700-acre open space that features nearly 30 miles of trails.

Officials rushed to the park and started scouring the area for the missing hiker. They searched until midnight, then paused the search until daylight.

At about 7 a.m. on Sept. 18, officials continued their search. They found a man’s body about five hours later.

“An adult male was located deceased beneath a rock ledge,” deputies said in a news release. “The decedent’s body was recovered and the incident is being investigated as an unattended death.”

The county coroner will identify the body and determine a cause and manner of death, deputies said.

Horsetooth Mountain Park is about 70 miles north of Denver.
