A South Carolina woman who joined her friend on a trip to buy a Powerball ticket got a big surprise.

The woman decided to buy a ticket of her own and scratched off a $300,000 prize, lottery officials said in a Sept. 20 news release.

“You would think I’d be jumping up and down screaming, but I couldn’t,” the woman told officials. “I was in complete shock.”

The winner said she plans to share her prize money with friends and family.

The lucky ticket came from the Garden Spot at 1913 Cedar Lane Road in Greenville, the release says. The store received a $3,000 commission for the sale.

The odds of winning the $300,000 prize in the Carolina Gold 100x game were 1 in 900,000. There are no more top prizes remaining, so the game has ended.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
