A long-time lottery player was left “stuttering and speechless” after checking his Michigan lottery ticket and discovering a jackpot win.

“I have been playing the Lottery for a long time and I mostly play Fantasy 5,” the 86-year-old man from Macomb County told Michigan lottery officials in a Dec. 27 news release.

“I was checking my ticket the day after the drawing, and I didn’t believe it when I saw I’d matched all five numbers,” the man said. “All I could think was: ‘This can’t be right!’

“My son happened to call me a few minutes later, and I couldn’t get out the words to tell him I’d won the Lottery because I was in such disbelief,” the man, who chose to remain anonymous, said in the release.

“My son started to get worried because I was stuttering and speechless for a few minutes before I could finally explain to him that I’d won a $569,366 Fantasy 5 jackpot,” he told lottery officials.

The 86-year-old plans to share his prize with his family and save the rest, lottery officials said.

He purchased the winning ticket at David’s Mini Mart in Sterling Heights and matched all the Fantasy 5 numbers in the Oct. 22 drawing, according to the release.

In the Michigan lottery’s Fantasy 5 game, players choose five numbers between one and 39, lottery officials said. Every play costs $1 with additional $1 options that give players the chance to win up to $500 and/or a second chance to win. Fantasy 5 drawings are held nightly.

Macomb County is about 30 miles northeast of Detroit.
