20-year-old rarely plays lottery — but last-minute decision to buy ticket pays off big
A 20-year-old Silver Spring woman stopped for a drink last week and made a last-minute decision to grab a Maryland lottery ticket. Her choice paid off big.
When the woman got home, she scratched her $10 Gold X50, according to a March 17 news release from the Maryland Lottery.
“I saw the 50X symbol and the $1,000 prize underneath and I just screamed and screamed,” she told officials.
After seeing her prize, the lottery winner told her parents. That’s when the whole house erupted in screams, officials said.
“It’s just so crazy because I don’t really play,” the winner told officials.
The woman said she plans to use her prize to pay for her college tuition this fall and maybe to take a vacation.
The winning ticket was bought at 20 Convenience Mart in Silver Spring, lottery officials said.
Silver Spring is less than 10 miles north of Washington, D.C.
