Deer gives birth with its head and one leg stuck in trash can lid, Florida team says
A pregnant deer saw things go from bad to ridiculous when it got its head stuck in a trash can lid, then got its left front leg stuck, too, according to Wild Florida Rescue.
It happened near Titusville, about 40 miles east of Orlando, and a photo shows the doe was seen hopping around on three legs.
“We watched as this pregnant deer had gotten her head stuck in a trash can lid, then also got her foot stuck in it!! Then she successfully gave birth while entrapped,” Wild Florida Rescue reported in a June 16 Facebook post.
An elaborate rescue was organized, with netting guns, a dart gun and experts working to track the deer’s movements.
Then something odd happened: The deer somehow freed itself from the lid ... or someone helped get it off.
“It was as frustrating as it gets and great time and efforts were put in,” Wild Florida Rescue wrote.
“In the end we can’t really say exactly how the heck the lid was removed from her head and leg only that it was!!! Hidden angels always around.”
The deer lost fur around its neck while stuck and was seen “limping with a very sore leg.” However, she otherwise appeared to be fine, officials said.
“Her fawn is thriving and those damn lids are being removed from the entire community,” the rescue agency said.
“We are so Blessed that all these people would come together, travel, exhaust time and resource just because they could not and would not rest or give up until she was helped.”
It’s not clear how long the deer was trapped in the plastic lid, but a photo shared April 20 on Facebook shows it originally had just its head stuck.
