A kitten needed rescuing after it vanished behind the dashboard of its owner’s vehicle, earning a fitting new name in the process, Georgia firefighters said.

Officials with Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services took to social media to share the moment they met “Dash.”

It happened Thursday, Aug. 17, when a driver sought help at Station 7 in Woodstock for the tiny kitten he just adopted, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Crews learned the cat had scampered behind the vehicle’s dashboard and got stuck during the ride home. They could hear it but couldn’t get a good look at it, the post said.

The kitten was trapped for about an hour before being freed, a Cherokee County fire spokesperson told McClatchy News. Using a few tools, firefighters disassembled parts of the car to find the animal and remove it.

After about 45 minutes, Dash was reunited with its owner, according to officials. Crews also gifted the driver with a travel box to take the kitten home.

The ordeal helped the owner land on the perfect name for his new four-legged friend.

Woodstock is about 30 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
