A man spent the night trapped in a cliff’s crevice after slipping, Utah officials said.

The climber was with friends at the Indian Creek climbing route in Monticello when he slipped, resulting in his knee getting trapped in a crevice, according to an Oct. 28 Facebook post by the San Juan County Utah Search and Rescue.

The man’s climbing group tried to free him from the crevice but wasn’t able to so they called for help, officials said.

The search and rescue team flew to the top of the cliff and had to “repel down to the stuck” man, officials said.

Search and rescue teams called for Grand County Search and Rescue’s help after spending hours trying to free the man with no success, officials said.

The man, who had minor injuries, spent 12 hours trapped before being freed by the rescue team, officials said.

Monticello is about 300 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
