Hiker dies after being pinned under fallen tree at Washington waterfall, rescuers say
A hiker died after she was struck by a falling tree and pinned underneath it at a Washington waterfall, fire officials said.
The woman was hiking with a group on Sunday, March 3, at Dickerson Creek Waterfall in Bremerton, Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue said in a Facebook post.
A toppled tree hit her and trapped her in the creek about 100 yards downstream from the falls, fire officials said.
Rescuers said they were contacted at about 2 p.m. for a CPR call. But as they were on their way, a nurse on the scene said the woman had died.
Her body was recovered from the area and turned over to the medical examiner who will determine a cause of death and “release the victim’s identity once it’s appropriate.”
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office did not determine the woman’s death to be suspicious.
Dickerson Creek Waterfall is on the Ueland Tree Farm in Bremerton, which is about 15 miles west of Seattle.
A 1.6-mile roundtrip hike will take visitors to the falls, according to the tree farm.
“Dickerson Creek flows year round and the falls are particularly impressive after heavy rains,” the tree farm said on its website.
There’s a bridge and a viewing area.
