20-year-old who was on her ‘way to the top’ found fatally shot at trailhead, cops say
A woman was found fatally shot near a trailhead by U.S. Army Corps of Engineering employees, setting off a homicide investigation, Tennessee authorities said.
She’s now been identified as Jamani Parker, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
The workers found Parker on the Alta Lake Greenway trailhead with a gunshot wound to the head around 10 a.m. Sunday, July 14, according to a news release from police.
She was wearing dark pants and a pink bra, but wasn’t carrying any identification, police said.
She died at a hospital, and preliminary autopsy reports showed she was shot to death, officials said.
The medical examiner’s office declined to share Parker’s manner of death, saying the report had not yet been finalized.
Those who knew Parker mourned her loss, describing her as a “happy” and “goofy person.”
“Rest UP little cousin,” one person wrote on Facebook. “You did not deserve this. Literally on your way to the top. Words can’t explain how hurt this family is at this moment this will forever weigh heavy.”
Parker played basketball and went to high school in Milwaukee before moving to the Nashville area.
“Words cannot describe how much sadness and heartbreak is in my heart… Jamani you were always my #1 supporter on the court…” another Facebook user wrote. “I love you so much and wish we could’ve hooped one last time together.”
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
“It’s been tough to make this post…… sweetheart life wasn’t supposed to just stop like this, you had so much more to give and be,” another person wrote. “Rest well beautiful.”
