Lucky feeling leads to ‘fateful day’ for Maryland lottery player. ‘A blessing’
Though a Maryland woman rarely plays lottery games, she took a chance one “fateful day.”
“It was just one of those days when I felt lucky,” the woman said, per a July 22 Maryland Lottery news release.
Heeding her intuition, she took a “rare trip” to a Baltimore gas station and bought a “quick-pick ticket for the regular and Double Play” Powerball drawings on April 3, lottery officials said.
To the woman’s amazement, she took home a third-tier win by matching four numbers and the Powerball on her Double Play quick-pick ticket, lottery officials said.
“To win $50,000 is simply overwhelming,” the woman said, per the release.
The woman plans to use part of her winnings to take a vacation, lottery officials said.
The rest, however, she plans to donate to a nonprofit that “provides shelter, meals, child care and resources to aid those in need,” the woman told lottery officials.
“I view this as a blessing,” the woman said in the release. “It feels right to use these winnings to support and rebuild my community.”
The woman told lottery officials she will continue to play the lottery.
“Life is a gamble, and it’s good to take risks,” the woman said, per the release.
