Man tries to ‘holler’ at woman then stabs her when she rejects him, Tennessee cops say
A man is accused of approaching a woman and stabbing her when she rejected his advances, Tennessee authorities said.
Delvontay Malone, 29, was charged with aggravated assault, Shelby County records show. McClatchy News reached out to the public defender’s office for comment July 24 and did not immediately receive a response.
At around 4 a.m. on July 23, a stranger, later identified as Malone, approached the woman and said “let me holler at you,” the woman told officers with the Memphis Police Department.
She turned him down, then he attacked her, stabbing her in the leg three times, police wrote in an arrest affidavit.
The woman was taken to a hospital in “non-critical condition,” police said.
The woman and a witness gave police a description of the man, and they found Malone wearing a bloody shirt, with a bloody pocketknife in his hoodie, police said.
Malone only told investigators he was at that same location and he asked the woman for money, police said.
The witness identified him out of a lineup as the man accused of stabbing the woman, according to police.
He was booked in jail July 23, records show.
