Powerball player wins $1 million in California. Where was the lucky ticket sold?
A Powerball ticket sold in California won nearly $1 million and narrowly missed the $154 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, July 31, the California Lottery said.
Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $171 million, with a cash value of $81.4 million, for the next drawing Saturday, Aug. 3, according to the national Powerball site.
The winning numbers were 23, 34, 37, 50 and 58, with a Powerball of 7. The Power Play was 2.
The $987,439 ticket was sold at a grocery store in San Francisco, the California Lottery said.
More than 48,000 other Powerball tickets sold in California also won prizes ranging from $3 to more than $22,000, the state lottery said.
The Powerball jackpot has gone unclaimed since July 3, when an Ohio player hit the $139.3 million grand prize, lottery officials said.
