A dog that was left to possibly die in the streets of Indiana is not letting it diminish his love for people, and manages to continue to give his heart to his rescuers despite his traumatizing past.

When Big Blue was brought into the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers, he was in serious pain, an Aug. 8 Facebook post said.

“This gentle giant wandered the streets alone, burdened by a lifetime of neglect,” the post said. “When he came to us, it was clear he’d been fighting a losing battle for a long time. His tail was so severely injured that the bone was exposed, forcing us to amputate.”

Not only was his tail an issue, Big Blue was “covered in painful sores” all over his body, suffered from malnutrition, had overgrown nails, and was needled with fleas and ticks.

“It’s heartbreaking to think of how much this sweet boy has suffered,” the post said.

But despite his many ailments, the pup still manages to enjoy the little things in his life.

“But even in his darkest moments, Big Blue’s heart remains pure. He’s a gentle giant who just wants to love and be loved,” the post says.

“He finds comfort in his Lambchop toy, a small reminder that not everything in his world is harsh. And when you offer him a bacon treat, his eyes light up with a hope that’s impossible to ignore.”

Fishers is about a 20-mile drive northeast from Indianapolis.
