A 32-year-old has been missing for days after he set out alone to summit a mountain peak in a Montana national park, officials said.

Grant Marcuccio “separated from his party” Sunday, Aug. 18, as he trekked from Heavens Peak to McPartland Peak, the Glacier National Park said in a Facebook post.

Marcuccio was reported missing when he didn’t return to a meeting spot, officials said in a release.

The man from Whitefish had reached the summit of Heavens Peak with a friend earlier that day, his friend Amy Boring wrote on Facebook.

“Being the mountain goat that he is, went on to summit McPartland solo,” Boring wrote.

He was last seen trekking toward McPartland Mountain, officials said in the release.

Rescuers began looking for him by helicopter Monday, Aug. 19. Then teams looked for him by foot the next day, officials said.

Another helicopter with the U.S. Forest Service will continue to scan the area for him Aug. 21.

Boring said his backpack was spotted by a helicopter on the south side of Heavens Peak, which “is an extremely dangerous area.”

Marcuccio has short brown hair, brown eyes and is about 6 feet tall. He weighs approximately 175 pounds and may be wearing brown shorts and a brown and white checkered shirt, officials said.

Anyone with information can call the park’s tip line at at 406-888-7077.

McPartland Mountain is an 8,413-foot tall mountain in northwestern Montana, according to Peakbagger.com.
