A high school student used pepper spray during a fight on a school bus and a parent was arrested after waving a gun when the bus pulled over, according to investigators in Middle Tennessee.

The 36-year-old woman was charged with reckless endangerment, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a news release.

She was arrested Thursday, Sept. 12, after getting into a dispute with the driver of a bus carrying McGavock High School students, police said.

“Students on the bus got into a fight during which one of them pepper sprayed others. The bus driver pulled over,” police said.

“While medics were treating a student for pepper spray exposure, (the suspect) arrived on the scene and attempted to get on the bus but was prevented from doing so by the driver. She was apparently upset that her daughter had been pepper sprayed.”

The parent then went to her car, got a handgun and “began to wave it around ... but did not point the gun at anyone,” cops said. She then drove away.

The woman was stopped and arrested while still in her car, police said. A handgun was recovered by police.

“Beyond the pepper spray exposure, no one was injured,” police said.

McGavock High has a student population of just over 2,000 in grades nine through 12, according to USNews.com.
