Son hears mom screaming and rushes to room. She won huge Powerball prize in Michigan
A mom bought a Powerball ticket “on a whim” and it landed her a massive prize, Michigan officials said.
Kristina Love, 74, normally plays Fantasy 5 but went with a $2 Powerball ticket when she was at a Traverse City supermarket, according to a Sept. 18 news release by the Michigan Lottery.
The lucky winner checked her ticket the following morning and started screaming when she learned she won $1 million, officials said.
“My son ran in the room thinking something was wrong, until I said, ‘I just won $1 million!’ I must have looked the numbers over five more times after that to make sure I wasn’t mistaken,” Love told lottery officials.
She bought the winning ticket holding the numbers 05-15-21-24-43 for the Aug. 24 drawing, officials said.
Love said she plans to buy a home and share the money with her family, officials said.
Traverse City is about a 260-mile drive northwest of Detroit.
