Mom breaks routine and wins big Maryland lottery prize. ‘It doesn’t feel real’
When a Maryland woman buys her lottery tickets, she usually uses a personal set of numbers.
Recently, though, she decided to change things up and let the machine do the number picking for the Sept. 25 Powerball Double Play drawing, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Sept. 30 news release.
“I like the numbers that came out,” the woman told lottery officials.
The woman, who has played Powerball since 2021, “always purchases the Double Play option for the extra $1,” lottery officials said.
“Double Play is a second drawing that occurs 30 minutes after each Powerball drawing,” and the same numbers are used in both the drawings, according to lottery officials.
When the Frederick woman checked her ticket, she told lottery officials she “couldn’t breathe.”
Her random set of numbers won her $500,000, lottery officials said,
“I was hyperventilating and I was in shock,” the woman said. “It doesn’t feel real.”
The woman told lottery officials she plans to use the winnings towards a new home and to save for her children’s college tuition.
“I am just so grateful,” the woman told lottery officials.
Frederick is about a 50-mile drive northwest from Baltimore.
