14-year-old last seen walking into woods a month ago is still missing, Maine cops say
A 14-year-old girl from Maine has been missing for a month after she was last seen walking into the woods, state authorities said.
Maine state police and the FBI are investigating Stefanie Damron’s disappearance from New Sweden, where she lives, according to an Oct. 22 news release. New Sweden, a town about a 260-mile drive northeast from Augusta, is near the Canadian border.
Damron was seen leaving her home and heading into the woods while wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt, blue jeans and black Harley-Davidson hiking boots on Sept. 23, police said.
Following Damron’s disappearance, the FBI’s Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team started investigating alongside Maine State Police, according to authorities.
“Despite extensive investigative efforts, Stefanie remains missing,” police said.
Investigators have pursued leads in Maine and beyond — throughout the U.S. and Canada, according to authorities.
Additionally, the Maine Warden Service and a state police K9 unit have searched large areas of land near where she was last seen, police said.
Damron has shoulder-length brown hair, green eyes, is 5 feet tall and weighs 130 pounds, according to authorities.
The FBI’s Child Abduction Rapid Deployment is continuing to investigate with state authorities.
The agency’s “CARD” team formed in October 2005 to quickly respond and investigate crimes against children, including abductions “by someone other than a family member.”
Authorities haven’t said whether Damron is suspected to have been abducted.
Anyone who may have information about her location is asked to call Maine State Police Houlton Barracks at (800) 924-2261 or (207) 532-5400.
