Passersby find 13-year-old stabbed to death on trail, TN cops say. 15-year-old charged
UPDATE: The 15-year-old charged with second-degree murder is accused of stabbing the 13-year-old “multiple times” with a pocketknife, according to court records, WBIR and WVLT reported.
The original story is below.
Two people found a 13-year-old girl dead on a trail, leading to a murder charge against a 15-year-old boy, Tennessee authorities said.
At about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 22, passersby on a trail in an eastern Tennessee neighborhood called 911 to report that they found a body, Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler said in a news conference broadcast by WVLT.
The trail in the Broadacres Subdivision in Powell is often used by local kids to get to a pool and nearby Weigel’s convenience store, Spangler said.
Later that evening, in a follow-up news conference broadcast by WVLT, Spangler announced that his office had arrested a teen boy, saying the two knew each other. Spangler didn’t reveal further details about their relationship or share either teen’s name.
The teen boy is facing a second-degree murder charge, per the sheriff.
He described it as an isolated incident. The investigation is ongoing.
Powell is about a 10-mile drive northwest from downtown Knoxville.
