A family is suing after a mother and daughter were killed by a speeding driver as they were leaving a Drake concert in Missouri.

On Feb. 14, 42-year-old Laticha Bracero and her 21-year-old daughter, Alyssa Cordova, traveled from Chicago to attend a Drake concert in St. Louis, according to KSDK.

After leaving the concert, the two walked across a street at an intersection, according to a lawsuit filed by family members.

As they were crossing the road, a 2020 Jeep Cherokee speeding through the intersection struck a 2017 Mitsubishi, according to the lawsuit. The Jeep then spun and hit Bracero and Cordova, throwing them over 80 feet into a building, the lawsuit said.

The Jeep was driven by Monte Henderson, according to the court document.

Henderson was speeding before the crash, driving at least 70 mph, according to WLS.

McClatchy News reached out to Henderson’s attorney who did not wish to comment on the case.

According to the lawsuit, the Jeep belonged to someone else, also named as a defendant in the civil case. The Jeep owner allowed Henderson to drive the vehicle, despite Henderson’s previous driving history of speeding and reckless driving.

Henderson drove the Jeep, running several red lights before approaching the intersection where Bracero and Cordova were crossing, according to the lawsuit. It also said he had a blood alcohol content of .194, over twice the legal limit.

Bracero was pronounced dead at the scene. Cordova was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Cordova was Bracero’s only child, according to a GoFundMe page set up by family.

“Alyssa loved music concerts and although was old enough to travel to concerts on her own, her mom would always escort her. The two were inseparable and shared a strong bond,” the GoFundMe page said.

Henderson is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of driving while intoxicated, court records show.

The lawsuit is seeking over $75,000 in damages.
