Missing skydiver found dead miles from where he hoped to land, Louisiana cops say
A skydiver who vanished in Louisiana was found dead miles from where he intended to land, officials said.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office said several agencies started searching for the missing skydiver after deputies responded to Gilliam Airport, a roughly 25-mile drive north from Shreveport.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned that the skydiver’s parachute had failed to deploy,” the sheriff’s office wrote Nov. 16 in a news release. “The individual was wearing an orange wingsuit at the time of the incident.”
Deputies were called to the airport at about 1:30 p.m. Nov. 16. About two hours later, the skydiver’s body was found “a couple of miles from the intended landing location.”
The sheriff’s office, which didn’t identify the skydiver or the skydiving operator in its news release, said it launched an investigation.
Deputies didn’t immediately share additional information about the case with McClatchy News on Nov. 18.
