Parent crashes through fence, fatally pins preschool teacher under car, Texas cops say
Pickup after a Montessori preschool’s holiday performance turned tragic when one parent crashed through a fence where children were playing, Texas deputies said.
Alexia Rosales, the San Antonio teacher supervising the children, was pinned under a car, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and Excelled Montessori Plus. The fire department used a hydraulic lift to get the car off her, but she died at the scene, Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a Dec. 19 news conference.
Five children were injured and taken to the hospital, according to Salazar. He said their injuries range in severity, but they are all alive.
The Montessori preschool identified Rosales on Dec. 20 through a Facebook post.
“Alexia wasn’t just a teacher—she was a bright light in all our lives. Her smile, laughter, and boundless love for the children and everyone around her made our school feel like a second home,” the school said in the post.
The parent accused of causing the crash is not expected to be criminally charged, according to Salazar.
The woman loaded her children into her vehicle and started to drive, but accelerated for an unknown reason. She hit another car in the parking lot, and the two barreled through the fence where Rosales was watching the children, deputies said.
The parent was not believed to be intoxicated at the time of the crash, nor was she suspected of attempting to crash on purpose, Salazar said. He noted that a medical issue could have caused the driver to accelerate into the fence.
“We’re heartbroken,” the school said in a GoFundMe. “Losing Alexia feels like losing a part of ourselves. Her warmth, kindness, and energy will always stay with us, but the void she leaves behind is immense.”
