Princess Beatrice changes holiday plans after she’s advised against long travel amid pregnancy
Princess Beatrice will be joining the royal family for their annual Christmas gathering, after all.
The 36-year-old granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II was initially expected to travel to Italy to spend the holiday with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and his parents, per People.
Those plans have now changed after Beatrice was medically advised not to travel long distances due to her pregnancy.
The couple, who are expecting their second child together, are now scheduled to celebrate the holiday with King Charles III and Queen Camilla at their country residence in Sandringham, Norfolk, England.
The Sandringham House has been home to the royal family’s annual holiday celebrations since 1988, per Harper’s Bazaar.
Beatrice’s 3-year-old daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, and 8-year-old step-son, Christopher “Wolfie” Woolfe, from Mozzi’s previous relationship, are also expected to attend, according to Hello! Magazine.
However, sources for People and Hello! Magazine say it’s unlikely we see Beatrice and Sienna take part in the family’s annual walk to church on Christmas morning.
Beatrice and Mozzi announced their pregnancy in a palace statement on Oct. 1.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child together in early spring,” Buckingham Palace wrote at the time.
Princess Beatrice might be joining 45 other royal family members at Sandringham this year, but her parents and sister won’t be among them.
Beatrice’s younger sister, Princess Eugenie, has already accepted an invitation to spend the holiday with her in-laws, despite being a regular attendee at Sandringham.
As for Beatrice and Eugenie’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have also declined an invitation to the royal family gathering amid backlash due to the Duke of York’s ties to a Chinese spy.
Andrew and Ferguson are no longer married, but still share a residence at the Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate and are expected to celebrate Christmas together, away from the public eye.
Meanwhile, Prince William, his wife, Kate Middleton, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, have reportedly already arrived in Sandringham.
The royal family will exchange gifts on Christmas Eve, as per tradition, before greeting locals and members of the press during their iconic Christmas-morning walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church.
When asked if he was ready for the chaos that ensues on Christmas, Prince William replied, “No. No way am I ready.”
