A driver came barreling into the flow of traffic as a man hung to the exterior of the car, Kentucky police said.

The car swerved into the lane on Jan. 23 and intentionally struck another vehicle, causing the person hanging onto the car to smash into the second car, Louisville police said.

First responders found the man lying dead on the road on Jan. 23 as the driver accused of causing the crash fled the scene, police said.

Investigators said they detained the driver who fled the scene, but reported on Jan. 24 that the person was not responsible for killing the man hanging to the outside of his vehicle.

Officials say the investigation into what led up to the crash is ongoing.
