Lottery player wakes husband after grocery run leads to huge prize in SC. ‘Debt free’
A stop for groceries ended with a life-changing prize for a South Carolina lottery player.
The Upstate woman tried her luck playing Palmetto Cash 5 after getting groceries at Walmart — and took home a $140,000 jackpot, the South Carolina Education Lottery said Feb. 6.
“I’m debt free,” she told lottery officials.
She bought the winning ticket at the Murphy USA gas station outside the supercenter in Taylors, where she quick-picked a few numbers, officials said.
She said she didn’t check her ticket until later that night and woke her husband to tell him the good news, officials said.
“It is wonderful,” she told lottery officials.
The lucky player beat odds of 1 in 850,668 to win the game’s grand prize, per the lottery’s website.
Taylors is about an 80-mile drive west from Rock Hill.
