A Virginia woman is dead after being run over by a vehicle she was trying to move, police said.

Officers responded to a reported medical emergency at about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in Tuckahoe, where they found a woman in a driveway “with obvious signs of trauma,” Henrico County Police said in a Feb. 20 news release.

The woman — identified by police as 52-year-old Anastasia Xyderis Flegas — was taken to a hospital for her injuries and died Feb. 18, police said.

Flegas was trying to move the vehicle and stepped out while it was still moving. She was then knocked to the ground by the car door before the vehicle rolled over her, police said.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.

Tuckahoe is about a 10-mile drive northwest from Richmond.

Non-traffic motor crashes

About 25% of people killed in non-traffic motor crashes in 2021 were non-occupants, according to the latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Rollaway vehicles are the third leading cause of non-traffic crash fatalities among non-occupants, accounting for 20% of them. This marked an increase of 10 percentage points since 2017, according to research.
