‘Remarkably affectionate’ pig is ‘bit of a Velcro baby.’ See post-adoption smile
A family in upstate New York welcomed a smart and sweet pig into their lives as a 4-H project, according to the animal shelter where she was adopted from.
“A remarkably affectionate and intelligent 9-month–old pig named Lola has embarked on a new chapter in her life — finding her new home with a local family, including 13-year-old twins eager to welcome her into their 4-H project!” the SPCA Serving Erie County, NY said in an April 27 post on Facebook.
Lola was a favorite around the shelter, according to the post.
“Lola was the greatest pig I’ve ever had,” said Educational Farm Manager Heather Silverthorn in the post. “She was a bit of a Velcro baby, as in she would follow me around everywhere. She had this hearty, low, grunty snort she would let out for her most favorite people, and she welcomed EVERYONE with a happy tail wag and loving snorts.”
As part of the 4-H project, the twins will raise Lola and most likely show her at county fairs, according to the Cornell 4-H Animal Science Program.
“With her smarts, charm, and dedicated new family, Lola is undoubtedly destined for blue ribbons and happy oinks in her 4-H adventures!”
Several people asked what happens to 4-H animals after their life of showing, and the shelter assured them Lola will be the family’s beloved pet for life.
Others commented on how cute they think the young black pig is with her toothy grin.
“Teefers!” someone said.
“Go for the BLUE Lola!!” another person said. “You’ve got the right stuff for sure!!”
Erie County is about a 20-mile drive southeast from Buffalo.
