Men found shot dead at rural weed grow, OK cops say. Now, man and teen arrested
Two people have been arrested in killings at a marijuana growing operation in rural Oklahoma, according to police.
On April 18, two men — 56-year-old Bao Ming Ma and Alejandro Baltazar Hernandez, 42 — were found shot to death at a weed farm in Wynnewood, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a May 27 news release.
News of the killings shook the small southern Oklahoma community, KOCO reported at the time.
“This is supposed to be the country with rolling hills and nice, beautiful pastures. It’s not looking that way anymore,” Kirk Cox, who lives next to the marijuana grow, told the station. “It makes me nervous and afraid, because I’m not always home, and my mom is 87 years old. So, I worry about her a lot. It gets pretty nervous around here sometimes.”
Now, more than a month later, police say an 18-year-old man, Whyitt Collins, and a 16-year-old accomplice have been arrested and are accused of killing Ma and Baltazar Hernandez.
According to the Bureau, Collins was taken into custody on May 23 in Garvin County, and jailed on a charge of murder. The teenage suspect was arrested by the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department, state investigators said.
Police didn’t comment on what may have motivated the killings, or what led them to Collins and his teenage accomplice, but said the investigation is ongoing.
Wynnewood is a roughly 60-mile drive south from Oklahoma City.
