A 22-year-old mom picked up her baby while fighting her own mother, then the baby was hospitalized with a skull fracture, Louisiana deputies said.

Both women are now charged with domestic abuse battery with child endangerment and second-degree cruelty to juveniles, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said May 29.

McClatchy News is not identifying the two women to protect the identity of the child.

The 39-year-old grandmother and her adult daughter got into an argument that turned into a physical altercation on May 27 at the grandma’s house, deputies wrote in a news release.

They used “household objects” to hit each other during the fight, and at one point, the 22-year-old woman picked up her infant daughter and continued fighting her mom, according to investigators.

The baby was injured during the fight and was taken to a hospital, where medical staff discovered she had sustained a skull fracture, deputies said.

Both women were arrested. The grandmother was being held on a $160,000 bond, while her daughter was held on a $105,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

The women are from Thibodaux, about a 60-mile drive southwest from New Orleans.
