A lucky lottery player already has plans for some of the $50,000 he won playing Bonus Match 5 in Maryland.

The Baltimore man, who works as a program counselor, has a shopping spree in his future, according to a June 4 news release from the Maryland Lottery. He told lottery officials that, “I like clothes and I’m refreshing my wardrobe.”

The man bought the Bonus Match 5 tickets at a food mart in Baltimore, lottery officials said.

He scanned his tickets at a gas station later on, “and the one said to ‘Take to the Lottery,’” the man said, per lottery officials.

He looked for guidance from the cashier, who “told him he won big,” lottery officials said.

The man, “in disbelief,” kept running errands, but he did make one immediate purchase: getting his car detailed.

“I just wanted my car right and I got the works,” he told lottery officials. “I didn’t care how much it cost.”

Along with the mall trip, the man may buy his wife a new car with the windfall, and he plans to save, lottery officials said.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
