‘Homicidal’ woman drives through nursing home, killing 96-year-old, TN cops say
A woman is accused of plowing through a Tennessee assisted living facility and into a 96-year-old man’s room, killing him, authorities said.
The driver, 24-year-old Eleasah Williams, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and will be booked in jail on charges of vehicular homicide with recklessness when released from the hospital, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
Law enforcement got a call at about 5 a.m. June 14 about a “suicidal and homicidal” woman who officials said wanted to harm herself and others, according to court documents obtained by WBIR.
Williams then left the apartment complex in a minivan, drove across four lanes of traffic and through the wall of Shannondale Assisted Living, police said.
About 10 minutes after the first call, police received a second about a vehicle that had crashed through the assisted living facility and into one resident’s room, WATE reported from court documents.
“The vehicle had crashed completely into the room, striking and killing the occupant, who was identified as a 96-year-old man,” police wrote in a news release.
Fire rescue pulled Williams from the minivan and brought her to a hospital, police said.
“We are saddened by death of one of our residents in connection with the crash that happened early Saturday morning,” Shannondale Assisted Living said in a statement shared with McClatchy News. “We continue to pray for his family and friends, and (are) also grateful that no other residents or employees were harmed.”
A crew secured the area damaged by the crash as repairs are underway, and normal operations have continued in the other areas of the complex.
A private memorial will be hosted at the facility.
