A 60-year-old man died two weeks after his motorcycle hit a deer on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, officials said.

Edward Zigata, from Shallotte, North Carolina, was driving along the road near milepost 162 on June 1 when he crashed into a deer crossing traffic, the National Park Service said in a June 16 news release.

When responders arrived, they found Zigata had been ejected because of the impact of the crash, officials said.

He was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries and died June 14, according to officials.
