A group of firefighters in Arizona were in the middle of training when they “were called into immediate action” for a real-life rescue, officials said.

The firefighters, from multiple agencies, were at a recreation spot on the Salt River in Mesa training for swift water rescues when they saw a man “who was unresponsive in the water,” Mesa Fire and Medical Department said in a July 9 post on Facebook.

They performed CPR and resuscitated the 75-year-old man, according to officials.

He was taken to a hospital, officials said, “and we hope to reunite the patient and his rescuers.”

Officials added that “this incident is a powerful reminder of why we train — and how seconds matter.”

Mesa is about a 20-mile drive southeast from Phoenix.
