Woman fatally hit by USPS van leaving gas station, Maryland cops say
A Maryland woman died after being struck by a United States Postal Service van, police said.
The woman, identified as 64-year-old Mairi Nicola Morrison, was walking across the driveway of a gas station in Kensington when the van ran into her, the Montgomery County Department of Police said in a July 17 news release.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service “extends its deepest condolences to (Morrison’s) family and loved ones,” a spokesperson told McClatchy News in a July 21 email.
Rescuers responded to the crash just after 10:30 a.m. July 16 and took Morrison to a hospital where she died, police said.
According to an investigation, the driver of the van was pulling out of the gas station when Morrison was hit, police said. The driver stayed at the scene while good Samaritans rushed to help until authorities arrived, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
Kensington is about a 10-mile drive northwest from downtown Washington, D.C.
