Kid steals car with 1-year-old inside and crashes during chase, Michigan cops say
A 15-month-old was in a vehicle when a juvenile stole it from a gas station and sped away, Michigan deputies said.
The juvenile fled Port Huron on July 17 and drove onto Interstate 94 where they were spotted by St. Clair County deputies, but the child didn’t pull over, the sheriff’s office said in a July 18 Facebook post.
Video shows the stolen vehicle driving erratically on the road, quickly entering and exiting the freeway in an attempt to evade police.
The driver then crashed in the parking lot of Sugarbush Tavern in Chesterfield, which brought an end to the chase, deputies said.
“When a child is involved, situations are certainly more heightened and we are all grateful the child was unharmed in this instance,” St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King said in a statement.
Deputies did not identify the juvenile accused of stealing the vehicle but said they have a “lengthy criminal history.”
Port Huron is about a 60-mile drive northeast from Detroit.
