Grandson fatally shoots grandma, then grandpa as he tries to get help, FL cops say
A 22-year-old man fatally shot his grandmother, then as his grandfather rushed out to get help, the grandson killed him too, Florida authorities said.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeremyah Campbell, of Texas, on two counts of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and shooting into an occupied residence following the death of his grandparents, George and Mary White.
The couple’s 25-year-old neighbor was also caught in the line of fire, deputies said. Sheriff Wayne Ivey described the July 23 shooting as an “isolated domestic incident.”
The husband fled his West Melbourne home shortly after 8 p.m. and approached his neighbor across the street for help, saying his wife had been shot, Ivey said in a news conference.
Then came another volley of gunfire, hitting the husband and the neighbor, according to the sheriff.
First responders began rendering aid to both of them, but the husband died of his injuries at a hospital, and his wife was found with fatal gunshot wounds inside their home, Ivey said.
The neighbor is expected to recover.
West Melbourne is on Florida’s Atlantic Coast, about a 70-mile drive southeast from Orlando.
