Wife left in disbelief over husband’s big Maryland lottery win. ‘So many zeros’
When a Maryland husband showed his wife his winning lottery ticket, it left her doing a double-take.
The Prince George’s County man recently stopped by his favorite spot to buy lottery tickets: Tony’s Liquors in Laurel, Maryland Lottery officials said in an Aug. 4 news release.
“Tony’s is the spot,” told lottery officials, adding that they often have “big winners.”
He bought a handful of scratch-off lottery tickets, including a $20 $50,000 Cash ticket, lottery officials said.
When he got home, the player “scratched the barcodes on his tickets and scanned them while watching television,” lottery officials said.
The man soon “noticed a five and a bunch of zeros.” He had won a $50,000 prize.
“I told my wife we have to go to Baltimore,” the winner told lottery officials.
He said he showed his wife the message on his phone.
“I thought it was $5,000, but had to look again because there were so many zeros,” the wife told lottery officials. “I tried to stay calm, but I just couldn’t believe it.”
Despite the win leaving his wife in disbelief, the winner was nonchalant.
“He casually put the ticket in a drawer and went back to watching television,” lottery officials said.
The couple both have August birthdays.
“This will just add to our celebrations,” the couple said, adding that they plan to save their winnings.
Laurel is about a 20-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
