Wife has huge bills from cancer treatment, then husband wins lottery jackpot
An Ohio man won a huge lottery jackpot after buying the last scratch-off ticket on the roll.
The Carrollton man spent the day taking his wife to cancer treatment appointments, then decided he wanted to stop and buy some lottery tickets, according to an Aug. 27 news release from the Ohio Lottery.
He bought a couple $5 scratch-off tickets and the last $10 Best of 7’s scratch-off ticket on the roll, lottery officials said.
“I like the end of the roll, I’ll buy in the middle too, but always liked the end of the roll best,” he told lottery officials.
After scratching the ticket, he realized he won the $500,000 jackpot.
“I still can’t believe it. I still think it’s a dream,” he said.
He immediately told his wife, who couldn’t believe it.
“She looked at me funny and said, ‘did you fall?’ I said ‘no I’m in shock! I think I won half a million dollars,’” he said.
The man’s wife was in disbelief until he scanned the ticket and showed it to her, lottery officials said.
The man said his “family has mounting medical bills” from his wife’s treatments, so the win is a blessing.
He plans to use some of the money to pay medical bills and when his wife is feeling better, he plans for the two of them to do something fun together.
After taxes, the man will take home $360,000.
